Why does Nick need to promote the illusion that it was 'just a slap' because Caitlin pushed him too far? Is this the only illusion Nick needs to believe to survive? Why is it important to him that he feels Caitlin is controlling his behavior? Who or what is really manipulating the situation? Is it Nick's tragic flaws of jealousy and suspicion? Nick shows what can happen when someone becomes completely out of control. He needs to go to anger management to control his anger or he will turn into a monster. This is the only other option to help himself. No one else can help him, the only person who can is Nick himself.
Nick always think of her ex girlfriend because he feels guilty and shame of what he had done to his ex girlfriend. So he wants to make them all up to try to get his girlfriend back.

Well i think that Nick is like really obsesed with Caitlin, because he just cant stop thinking about her all of the time, well for my opinion i also think that Caitlin is trying to play mind games with Nick and is pretending to seduce him, because she is always letting Nick touch her and kiss her, i think that Caitlin is the villain in this novel.
I short like this book but there is so much werid event going on in the book. So journal entrie freak me out and nick is a disgusting person

For some reason Nick and his dad never get along, its like there always fighting about something, nicks dad is a man who always gets drunk and use to beat up nick, and with Nicks been abused as a youngster and now as a teenager he is more aggresive and jealou, but i wonder if Caitlin will get back togehter with nick? or will they go there seperate ways? what will hapen?
Nick is gradually changing through the journal entries he's writing for the court and anger management class. His intentions of doing this are that he doesnt want to do it but he does it because he wants to prove to a lot of people that in his own ways hes a good kid. But its going to take a lot of work to prove that he is.

Should Nick continue taking the anger manangment class? i mean hes not really changing? Does Caitlin like him or not? Is Nick jealous of Tom when he talk to Caitlin? As the storie continues more and more things happen.
Caitlin did the right thing by requesting the restraining order on Nick. It shows to everyone that Nick wasnt in his right mind when the incident happened. He tries to say that it was just a slap but he's lying to them and himself. when he does this he thinks he's making things better but he's actually making things worse.

Nick is showing that he's doing his job by writing in his journal every week. It seems he's meeting the requirements for his anger management class and the court by doing his journal. If he keeps this up, he could be let off from the court and maybe get out of his anger management class.

Does tom like caitlin? because It seems that he usually talks about her, tom asked nick one time if he was going to get back to her and nick started suspecting from there that he likes her, althought it is not really proven throughout the story it looks like he has a crush on caitlin.
i think in the story of "Breathing Underwater". Almost every boy in the school like Catilin, because she is pretty and so she is precious to some of the boys in the school.

is nick obsesed with caitlin? because he is always talking about her, in his anger managment he should talk about his problem, like with his obsesion on her. caitlin should go to another school so she won't have any more problems with nick and tom, if she left there wouldn't be anymore problems.
